Dive For Pop Fly Sends Baseball Fan's Nachos Flying

The numbers don't lie.

That peeved Cubs starter Jon Lester, who started Monday's game.

With the blowout win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, the Chicago Cubs magic number is down to one.

That is, until Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell flew over the fence and plunged headfirst into the man's cheesy snack.

"Great effort", pitcher Jon Lester said. It was the 219th home run for the Mets, a franchise season mark.

White Sox 4, Angels 2: James Shields tossed seven strong innings, Nicky Delmonico drove in a pair of runs, and the White Sox beat the Angels in Chicago, dealing a serious blow to Los Angeles' playoff hopes.

Lester most likely won't respond, so the beef will probably just wind up on Gudermuth's next plate of nachos.

So that @Cardinals fan's nachos Addison Russell knocked over?

Javier Baez hit a three-run homer in the third inning, but left the game shortly after fouling a pitch off his left leg in the eighth inning. It wasn't enough to put the hurt on early with a three-run double... "It's a tough game, and it was a good lineup he was facing". "You look at his numbers the last seven starts - lot of strikeouts, nearly no walks - and he's been a really good pitcher". Tonight's game can be the victor and given how Chicago has been playing, the team's foot is on the proverbial gas pedal. Matt Davidson and Adam Engel each had an RBI for Chicago.

Kris Bryant hit a home run and added two singles for Chicago. St. Louis announced he is in concussion protocol.

Chicago can wrap up the division with a win today against the Cardinals, or a loss by Milwaukee against Cincinnati. Colorado entered yesterday leading Milwaukee by two games and St. Louis by 2 1/2.

Meanwhile, Chicago is a game away from earning a chance to defend its World Series title.

I, for one, think our society has far, far, far bigger problems as to where we are as a society at the moment than some dude getting momentarily internet famous because he lost his ballpark concessions, but Lester is allowed his very crotchety opinion.

NOTES: Jose Quintana's shutout Sunday at Milwaukee was the Cubs' first by a lefty since Rich Hill had one on September 16, 2006, in a 4-0 victory over Cincinnati. Carlos Martinez will start for St. Louis.
