Georgetown Law Professors, Students Plan to Protest Sessions Speech

Georgetown Law Professors, Students Plan to Protest Sessions Speech

The Justice Department is thrusting itself into the raging debate about free speech on college campuses, filing a statement of interest Tuesday in a case challenging the establishment of "free speech zones" on the campus of a public university in Georgia.

The protest will reportedly include some professors taking a knee outside the auditorium where he will speak.

"The players aren't subject to any prosecution, but if they take a provocative act, they can expect to be condemned", Sessions said.

"Not a contradiction there", Sessions said. Probably not the best time for Jeff Sessions to go out there and talk about the freedoms of the First Amendments when his boss is out there attacking people for using those exact freedoms.

"We will not be fooled", the letter reads.

Sessions argued it was his duty as attorney general to defend first amendment rights.

RAVAN AUSTIN: The main point that I think that we're trying to push out here is that we're not saying that he doesn't have a right to speak. "But it is transforming into an echo chamber of political correctness and homogeneous thought - a shelter for fragile egos", Sessions said.

"The president has free speech rights, too", Sessions said.

-Gears Of Biz has a strict comment policy that forbids, but is not limited to, personal insults toward anyone, hate speech, and trolling. "We are protesting against his and the Trump Administration's views on free speech".

Blauser says he and others are "suspicious [Georgetown] came across the planning" for demonstrations and that's why they disinvited students. He responded that he respected everyone's views and their expression in an appropriate fashion, and again called on universities to "push back" against those who would seek to block speech. Given limited capacity, she said, the school's policy has held that the hosting organization determines the guest list. No one needed counseling, ' Sessions snarked. In February, a planned speech there by controversial writer Milo Yiannopoulous was shut down by violent protests. At Middlebury College in Vermont in March, protests outside the speech of a conservative political scientist devolved into a shoving match that left one professor hospitalized.

An estimated 1 in 10 US colleges have free speech zone policies that limit freedom of expression on campus, according to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. "We helped [the Afghans] write a constitution, but they had no heritage of it", before adding that it failed to be implemented because the Afghan people didn't have a sufficient cultural sense of liberty. "I think it should be a formal rule of the league", said Sessions. "It's the irony of him coming here".

When asked what he would say to the protesters outside, Sessions exhorted them to remember and defend "the very uniqueness of this right that we have" in America.

"He was happy. He feels like he's clearly winning that exchange", the person said.

The event was hosted by a center at the school, and they handled the invitations, according to a law school spokeswoman. Those students had initially signed up for the event, and then received invites, only to later have those invitations revoked.
