GoPro Announces the New Hero 6 Black

GoPro Announces the New Hero 6 Black

Overcapture will allow users to capture stills, photo bursts, and regular video from the existing footage that is captured in 360-degrees.

At a product unveiling Thursday, the action-camera company announced the Hero 6 Black, a refreshed version of its flagship camera aimed at adventure seekers.

The most notable updates in the Hero6 are UHD 4K 2160/60p video, up from 30p, and 240fps fps capture in HD, up from 120fps.

The company is aiming its Fusion camera at its core base of outdoor enthusiasts and others interested in the ability to create videos for virtual reality. Although they have yet to fully detail the specs it will feature dual, off-set cameras for better stitching, built in stabilization, waterproofed up to 16 feet of water, and can be activated with voice commands.

If you're interested, you can also watch a replay of the live event. During the announcement GoPro had a skater roll past the Fusion, then edit the shot to just follow behind where they were traveling.

Flawless for those wanting to try out VR and other modern filming styles, one of the Fusion's coolest features is the fact that the grip mount can be automatically removed from your shots. It can capture 5.2K spherical content at 30fps and records 60fps at 3K. (High-end editing software uses a very similar process.) The resulting footage should look similar to what you'd get if you strapped an older GoPro to their stabilized Karma grip.

Shorty - The ultimate pocket-able extension pole and tripod, ideal for any activity.

Unfortunately, OverCapture and the other neat features won't be available at launch when the Fusion releases this November for $700, but will be available via an update early in 2018.

The new camera is powered by GoPro's custom-designed GP1 processor and is capable of recording 4K video at up to 60 frames per second or 1080p footage at up to 240 frames per second. That will make it easier to control with the GoPro app and improve integration with the QuikStories feature, which automatically cuts together highlight reals.

Also announced today, the Hero 6 is GoPro's first camera to use the company's own processor, called the GP1.
