Las Vegas shooter booked rooms in hotel opposite another outdoor festival

Las Vegas shooter booked rooms in hotel opposite another outdoor festival

Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock booked rooms over other music festivals in the months before opening fire on a country music festival, authorities said, while thousands came out to mourn a police officer who was one of the 58 people he killed.

It has now emerged that Paddock booked a room at the 21-storey Blackstone Hotel in Chicago, Illinois, overlooking the site of the Lollapalooza music festival.

Most recently, Paddock looked into the most recent Lollapalooza, going as far as to book a room in a Chicago hotel called The Blackstone, according to The Chicago Tribune.

The Las Vegas gunman who carried out the deadliest mass shooting in recent US history also had scouted possible locations in Chicago and Boston, US media reported on Thursday. Lollapalooza was attended by 400,000 guests, including Malia Obama, and was headlined by acts like Chance The Rapper, Lorde, and The xx.

Las Vegas authorities confirmed Wednesday that Paddock had rented a room at Las Vegas' Ogden hotel the week prior, during Life is handsome, a three-day music and arts festival.

In the aftermath of the Mandalay Bay massacre, investigators learned that Paddock had rented a high-rise condo in a building that overlooked the Life is handsome festival in Las Vegas. He did not elaborate how: "I can't tell you".

"Yes", Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said on Wednesday when asked if the shooter had planned to escape after the killing.

But that person never checked into the hotel, which overlooked the festival, WWM spokeswoman Emmy Carragher said.

Paddock's girlfriend Marilou Danley was questioned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday and said in a statement she was unaware of the Paddock's plans.

Officials said they haven't found evidence that Paddock traveled to either Chicago or Boston.

"We're told the hotel does not guarantee view rooms, but for some reason in the hotel computer system there's a note that guaranteed Paddock a view room".

Police believe Paddock, who shot himself after carrying out the Vegas outrage, had hoped to survive and flee.

"The fact that he had that type of weaponry and amount of weaponry in that room, it was pre-planned extensively and I am pretty sure he evaluated everything that he did and his actions", said Lombardo.

New details in the case have emerged over the last four days indicating Paddock checked into his two-room suite at Mandalay Bay on September 28.

Investigators were looking into the possibility that Paddock planned additional attacks, including a vehicle bombing, a federal law enforcement officials said.

"There's all kinds of things that surprise us in each one of these events".

Investigators have zeroed in on a weapon-buying binge Paddock went on in the year before the attack.
