Counting on Positive BREXIT Negotiations: Theresa May

Counting on Positive BREXIT Negotiations: Theresa May

The Prime Minister will tell MPs that the "ball is in the EU's court" when she updates them on the progress of Brexit negotiations.

"As we look forward to the next stage, the ball is in their court", Mrs.

British Prime Minister Theresa May delivers her keynote speech to delegates and party members on the last day of the Conservative Party Conference at Manchester Central on October 4, 2017. "So while ... progress will not always be smooth, by approaching these negotiations in a constructive way - in a spirit of friendship and co-operation and with our sights firmly set on the future - I believe we can prove the doomsayers wrong".

Writing in the Sunday Telegraph, Mr Johnson himself suggested only "nutters" in the party would want to oust Mrs May, while in the Mail on Sunday, former Conservative Prime Minister Sir John Major accused "self absorbed" critics of undermining her.

"I did not vote to prevent trade talks", she said, noting she called for such negotiations. "The ball is entirely in the UK's court for the rest to happen", the spokesman said.

And Mr Gove is understood to favour a new system which would see the Government grant licences for European Union and Norwegian vessels to fish in its waters and be then negotiate the overall quotas.

May was meeting British business leaders on Monday, who are increasingly concerned over the slow pace of Brexit talks, and need to make decisions on moving headquarters or rearrange their businesses if the United Kingdom in effect leaves the bloc and its internal market on 31 March 2019.

Speaking on BBC One's Andrew Marr Show, Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said any politician watching Mrs May's speech would have sympathised with her, but if she wasn't a "weak prime minister presiding over a deeply divided party" it would not have been an issue.

The most important of them is how much London will have to pay for an exit from the EU.

EU Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas said Monday that, despite what Britain says, it is not for the EU to change its negotiating position as time on the two-year window for talks keeps ticking.

At the Conservative Party Conference, there were concerns about whether she was a strong enough leader to challenge Jeremy Corbyn.

The questions over May's leadership have seriously damaged hopes that a speech she gave in Florence in September, which contained key concessions, could give a "new dynamic" to the talks.

May has a slender majority with the support of Ulster Democratic Unionists, providing her European Union remain rebels vote with her. "We should have no fears about a "no deal" scenario".

Last week, two sources told Reuters that Japanese carmaker Toyota (7203.T) meant to build the next version of its Auris auto at its British vehicle plant on the assumption that the government secures a transitional Brexit deal in a decision due by the end of the year.

The fifth round of the Brexit negotiations start on Monday and Germany and France are among the member states who still want to continue to restrict the scope of the negotiations until more firm guarantees on money are made by the British.
