Bangladesh PM says government will continue to help Rohingya

Bangladesh PM says government will continue to help Rohingya

Standing next to newly erected tents clustered on a hillside, Abdul Malek explains one of the biggest problems faced in Rohingya Refugee Camps, the more than 500,000 Rohingya Muslims who fled violence in Myanmar for the relative safety of Bangladesh.

Border guard boats have rescued 13 Rohingya and the rest are missing, Jalil said, adding many may have swum to the Rakhine coast. According to UNICEF, about 2,30,000 refugee child entered in Bangladesh which is 60 percent of Rohingya refugee that have entered in last month.

Almost 520,000 Rohingya Muslims have now entered Bangladesh since deadly Rohingya militant raids on Myanmar police posts on 25 August prompted a brutal military backlash.

This latest photo was taken the day after a separate incident where 12 refugees, including five children, drowned on Sunday night near the southern tip of Bangladesh.

Numerous villages near Buthidaung municipality in Rakhine state have not received humanitarian assistance since the military crackdown in late August, the Burma Human Rights Network (BHRN) said.

We review the latest issues related to refugees, including a new wave of Rohingya refugees fleeing Myanmar, protests over ration cuts in Uganda and a migrant boat sinking off Tunisia.

Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya have fled Myanmar since August 25 when the military launched a crackdown that had been decried by the United Nations as "ethnic cleansing".

The military, which ran the country for 50 years until 2015, has stoked the view that the Rohingya are illegal immigrants from Bangladesh bent on claiming the Buddhist land.

Cox's Bazar: The bodies of another nine refugees have washed up in Bangladesh after an overloaded boat carrying scores of desperate Rohingya sank in rough seas, police said today, taking the confirmed death toll to 23.

It triggered a fresh influx of refugees towards neighboring Bangladesh, though the country sealed off its border to refugees.

"A massive cholera immunization campaign started today near Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, to protect newly arrived Rohingya and host communities from the life-threatening diarrheal disease", United Nations said in a statement on Tuesday.

"It's (also) not a bilateral problem of Bangladesh and Myanmar". The conflict has resulted in more than 1,000 Rohingya deaths, dozens of houses burned and countless women being raped.
