People start collecting items lost during Vegas shooting

People start collecting items lost during Vegas shooting

On Monday, Sheriff Joe Lombardo said Stephen Paddock shot and wounded a Mandalay Bay hotel security guard outside his door and sprayed 200 shots down the hall six minutes before he opened fire October 1 from his high-rise suite on a crowd at a country music festival below.

"The police officers themselves could've engaged Paddock and at least taken the gunfire instead of him shooting out at the festival", Giacalone said.

Police have a "pretty comprehensive timeline prior to the shooting", Lombardo said, but he declined to say whether the high-stakes video poker player had been gambling immediately prior to embarking on his killing spree.

Mr Lombardo said new information had emerged during the investigation and that "some things were bound to change" given its complicated nature.

Lombardo also said that authorities "do not know" what caused Paddock to stop shooting.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo revealed the update, saying Jesus Campos was shot in the leg just before 10 p.m. on October 1.

Charles "Sid" Heal, a retired Los Angeles County sheriff's commander and tactical expert, said the new timeline "changes the whole perspective of the shooting".

Lombardo said there is no evidence so far to show there was a second shooter, no signs Lombardo was seen with anyone else in Las Vegas, and no links to terrorist groups or any other ideology.

Officer David Newton said: 'He knew we were coming and we were going to have to come through. He then heard drilling coming from the gunman's room, which police believe the suspect planned to use to set up a camera into the hallway.

Lombardo also stated that Paddock checked into the hotel on September 25, three days earlier than the police previously reported.

"I loved him and hoped for a quiet future together with him", she said in the statement.

The Las Vegas gunman opened fire on a security guard six minutes before he rained down bullets on a crowd and killed 58 people.

Around 11:20 p.m., officers breached Paddock's door with explosives and entered his room.

The deposition has been turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the news network said.

A week later, investigators still haven't found a motive for Paddock's rampage.

Authorities have spoken to Paddock's brother and other family members, said Lombardo, who declined to discuss the interviews.

"This individual purposefully hid his actions leading up to this event and it is hard for us to find the answers to those actions", he concluded.

Eric Paddock said that when Stephen Paddock's body is released, he wants to have his remains cremated and sent to their 89-year-old mother, who also lives in Orange County.

"It's hard to get back to regular life, so we wanted to make sure that that was available for you when you came in", Steinbeck said.
