Serena Williams, Andy Murray to compete in Australian Open

Williams won her 23rd Grand Slam title, one short of Margaret Court's all-time record of 24, at the 2017 Australian Open. Very few people knew that. She wants to come back in 2018 and defend her title.

Serena beat Venus in the final in 2017 while pregnant but it will take an even more incredible effort for her to win the first Slam of 2018. She now leads. It is in several months and, obviously, it will be to her to determine where she is physically. "It will be up to her as far as where she is with her fitness".

"I've been in contact with all the top players", he said.

"I don't think my story is over yet", she told Vanity Fair over the summer, when she first indicated that she wanted to come back in January.

Williams' stellar year saw her return to the world top five for the first time since 2011, the year she was diagnosed with strength-sapping Sjogren's Syndrome. The American veteran, 37, shows no signs of slowing down and enjoyed one of her best seasons this year, making the final of Wimbledon and the Australian Open and the semis at the US Open.

The 2018 Australian Open, the 30th Australian Open to be held in Melbourne, will be the richest in the tournament's history with the total prize pool increased 10 percent to 42 million USA dollars.

Tiley said that watching Federer and Nadal share four Grand Slam titles this year would have been painful for the Scot.

Having generated record broadcast figures this year, Tiley said next year's event would again provide excitement and drama, particularly if, as expected.

"Venus has also had an incredible year, turning back the clock to make the second week of every major this year", Tiley said. Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori return from injury.

"He loves playing here, loves the Aussie fans, and has said his Australian Open win this year was one of the most meaningful of his career", Tiley said.

Meanwhile, Tiley could not guarantee wayward Australian Bernard Tomic would get a start in the men's draw.
