Snapchat Introduces Context Cards

If you decide you'd like to meet your friends there, you can even use the Context Card to summon ride from Uber or place a reservation through OpenTable.

You can now learn more about what you see on Snapchat without asking your friedns (Picture: Snapchat)What information will be available on Context Cards?

For now, only posts that use Geofilters or appear in Snap Map or Search will get the additional functionality.

To do this, Snap has partnered with a number of companies, including Foursquare and TripAdvisor, to surface information about the places where users create Snaps. They're called 'Context Cards, ' and they're new ways to find out more info about any Snap shared by users, providing access to things like restaurant reviews, reservations, Uber and Lyft ride hailing, contact information and more.

Context Cards were produced with the help of Vurb, a mobile search company acquired by the Veince-based Snap Inc.in 2016 for over $100 million, the company said.

The Context Cards displayed vary depending on the type of venue and the details available about the location.

But if anyone watching those snaps was interested in visiting those places, they'd likely have to tap a separate app, such as Google or Yelp, for more information.

Snap says it aims to always show you the most relevant information.

These Stories are made up of Snaps submitted by members of the Snapchat community to the firm's "our story" collections while near these location, as well as imagery from partner organisations. For a peek at how Context Cards work, check out the video below. Just look for the "More" option for Context Cards.
