Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie suspended after leaving New York Giants' facility

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie suspended after leaving New York Giants' facility

Rodgers-Cromartie is in his fourth season with the Giants.

The New York Giants have suspended cornerback Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie. The cornerback came to the facility Wednesday and left the team without practicing. He and Rodgers-Cromartie are two of the most valuable players on the team.

Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie looks on from the field against the Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017. "We will suspend him", McAdoo said Wednesday.

According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, Rodgers-Cromartie had a conversation with McAdoo on Tuesday and again on Wednesday, when he ultimately made a decision to leave practice shortly after he got there. He came in today, chose to leave.

McAdoo provided no other details about why Rodgers-Cromartie opted to go home but Art Stapleton of The Record (N.J.) reports that he was upset with his current usage as a slot corner. Rodgers-Cromartie said he handled it the wrong way, "but to sit me a game had me hot, so I left".

Things just keep getting worse for the New York Giants.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, this rift occurred as a result of some outburst from DRC on the sidelines during Sunday's loss to the Chargers. Ross Cockrell entered the game when the Giants used their nickel sub-package, bumping Rodgers-Cromartie back inside. If the Giants cut him, he would carry $2 million in dead cap space for 2018, a savings of $6.5 million.
