In A Rare Move, Disney Pulls The Plug On Gigantic

In A Rare Move, Disney Pulls The Plug On Gigantic

Without question, Disney has been the gold standard in animation since the release of its first full-length feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937.

While Catmull's statement leaves the door cracked open to revisit big again in the future, the film now joins the likes of Pixar's Newt and Disney's King of the Elves as projects shelved after long periods of development. His full statement reads as follows: "Sometimes, no matter how much we love an idea or how much heart goes into it, we find that it just isn't working".

Enormous was supposed to be the next Disney Animated feature after Frozen 2, which we now know is dropping in 2019 alongside Disney's live-action remake of The Lion King.

Next up for Disney Animation is Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, which is set to hit theaters on November 21st, 2018.

Disney's upcoming animated feature huge has been cancelled. According to THR, Catmull delivered news of the film was being pulled from the development, and another would be taking its place on the release schedule.

He explains that they've put quite a bit of work into enormous, but "no matter how much we love an idea or how much heart goes into it" sometimes it just doesn't work out. "With Gigantic, we've come to that point, and although it's a hard decision, we are ending active development for now. We focus our energy on other projects, that we will be unveiling soon, and which are now planned for Thanksgiving 2020". Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nathan Greno (Tangled) were set to direct, with Frozen songwriters Robert Lopez and Kirsten Anderson-Lopez writing songs.

If you've ever heard the long and gruelling process The Emperor's New Groove went through, this kind of cancellation should come as no surprise.
