Toddler left in Utah corn maze

He was cold and frightened but unhurt.

But Schmidt said maze workers and police were unable to locate the boy's family and "we couldn't get him to give us his name".

One of the corn maze owners, Kendall Schmidt, said they did everything they could, including going vehicle to auto.

KUTV reported the child was returned to the parents, but spokeswoman for the DCFS, Ashley Summer, told the Salt Lake Tribune she could not confirm the child's status because of privacy policies.

It was getting late, yet nobody had turned up for the boy. Police say the child's family didn't realize he was missing until the next morning.

Then, Schmidt said, an off-duty West Jordan police officer who was working at the maze took the boy to her patrol vehicle, gave him a teddy bear and put "Finding Dory" on her laptop for him to watch.

Sgt. Monson said the boy and his mother went to the corn maze with a large group of people, and the mother told police when she got home, they watched a movie and she fell asleep.

No charges have been filed but police are still investigating. "As a parent myself, I'd say 'thank you.' I think every parent would just be grateful for another adult to step in and mitigate that sort of situation", he said.
