Trump escalates feud with Corker

U.S. President Donald Trump talks to the media on South Lawn of the White House in Washington before his departure to Greensboro, North Carolina, U.S., October 7, 2017. "Was made to sound a fool, and that's what I'm dealing with".

The two-term Republican announced last week he would not seek a third term, which means eventually giving up his coveted chairmanship of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Trump has said Corker lacked the guts to run for another Senate term, that Corker wanted to be Secretary of State but Trump refused, and Trump suggested Corker was tricked by the New York Times into doing a recorded interview critical of Trump.

Not to be denied, Corker immediately responded that the Trump White House was nothing more than a daycare center for adults. "I think that's a decision for Sen".

Only eight percent think Trump is making the situation better, said the poll. I said "NO" and he dropped out (said he could not win without.my endorsement). Bob Corker is apparently still on, based on the new nickname the president bestowed upon Corker Tuesday morning.

Corker, the former mayor of Chattanooga, has said in recent days that Trump behaves as if he's still on a reality TV show, that White House aides have to run an adult day care, and Corker suggested Trump's bluster and threats toward North Korea could set the USA on a path to World War III.

Corker punctuated this by telling the Times that "except for a few people, the vast majority of our caucus" - meaning, of the Senate's 52 Republicans - "understands what we're dealing with here".

Trump later gave Corker grief about the comment during a meeting in the Oval Office, according to a Republican congressional official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the private conversations. Former Trump strategist Steve Bannon called on Corker to resign, while House Budget Chairman Diane Black (R-Tenn.) took Trump's side over her home state colleague.
