Mustafi out, Koscielny set for late fitness test: Wenger

Mustafi out, Koscielny set for late fitness test: Wenger

Wenger has confirmed that the 25-year-old will be out for between a month and six weeks, meaning he could make his return in the north London derby against Tottenham following the final global break of 2017.

Alex Iwobi has impressed during his stint in the line-up and Arsene Wenger could continue to show faith in the Nigerian forward.

Arsenal star Shkodran Mustafi has been ruled out of action for around a month with a thigh injury, but the Gunners are set to welcome back a host of stars for this weekend's clash with Watford.

Koscielny's possible return has taken added importance this week amid Shkodran Mustafi's definite absence following a thigh injury while playing for Germany that is expected to result in a relatively long-term issue.

The Arsenal boss provided a glimmer of hope to Arsenal fans regarding Laurent Koscielny's return and revealed that the Frenchman will undergo a fitness test on Friday to determine his availability for Saturday.

Arsenal almost sold Mustafi to Inter Milan this summer but they did not and he has become an important part of the team in Wenger's back three, starting five of their seven Premier League games so far.

The minor problem we have is with Sead Kolasinac. If he has no pain on his Achilles tendon he will play. At the moment he is not available.

"I will decide what I have to do when Koscielny has his test tomorrow". If Kolasinac is fit then the back three is likely to be Nacho Monreal, Per Mertesacker and Rob Holding.

Wenger said contract talks with German global Ozil, who is in the final year of his deal, were progressing well.

"Not all the players are back. I will make a check up this morning, but the news we have on him is quite positive".
