Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez could leave in January, admits Arsène Wenger

Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez could leave in January, admits Arsène Wenger

While yet to score or assist this season, Sanchez is Arsenal's second-best creator with 11 chances created in five games - only Mesut Ozil has created more for the Gunners.

Ozil is available for today's trip to Watford following a knee injury but he may have to wait his turn.

Wilshere could make his first Premier League start of the season at Vicarage Road, but Wenger said: "If the competition was less ferocious, he is ready to play". "People go quickly to conclusions", said Wenger. 'We live in the world where people have opinions and sometimes they are right and sometimes they are not always proven right on the longer period.

"I would say you have in every generation a player who carries the pressure of expectation of a nation", Wenger told reporters during Friday's press conference. We beat Man City in the FA Cup semi-final and Chelsea in the final and he played as well.

'You can always find the example but it's true we have done well recently'.

Ozil has been bothered by a knee injury and last started a game on September 9, when Arsenal beat Bournemouth 3-0, only coming off the bench for seven minutes when they beat West Brom 2-0 before the worldwide break.

"Of course he is important", said Wenger.

"I have spoken to him and he is over the moon", Hooper said. The 25 year-old made his return to the side last month and was superb in Arsenal's Europa League win at BATE Borisov.

"That's when I knew he was a great manager".

Mesut Ozil has been linked with a move to Manchester United. He would rather stay in London although there is no proposal on the table and his concerns about Arsenal go beyond money.

The duo have been playing behind the striker in Wenger's 3-4-2-1 formation, but Alex Iwobi, Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere have also flourished in the role in recent games.

Ozil has never been prolific, more often the creator, but his influence has faded with no goals and no assists for Arsenal this season, and only three goals for his club in 2017.

Arsene Wenger admits he may have to cut his losses and agree to sell both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window.

'It is not a problem around the team.

If he leaves him out at Watford, the writing is on the wall.
