Mobile cuts LTE roaming in Canada and Mexico to 5GB

Mobile cuts LTE roaming in Canada and Mexico to 5GB

The company T-Mobile unveiled that from November 12, it will bind the unlimited LTE data to 5 GB monthly at the time of traveling to USA neighbors.

Unfortunately, T-Mobile has now announced that it will alter the Mobile without Borders offer with a high-speed data cap for Mexico and Canada from November 12.

In 2015, T-Mobile (subsidiaries of the German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom AG) broadcasted its Un-carrier movement called "Mobile without Borders" under which unlimited calling, texting was offered to the customers and LTE date to Canada and Mexico that has been a tempting alternative for most of the travelers.

If you are on a legacy plan with a high-speed data maximum (i.e. 4GB, 6GB, 10GB), your data allowance is shared across US, Mexico, and Canada, but you only have up to 5GB high-speed data in Mexico and Canada combined.

Go from NY to Canada, or from California to Mexico; it's just like going from Idaho to Texas, from Georgia to Kentucky.

If you run out of data, the speed will be reduced to as low as 128 Kbps. T-Mobile has been chief among those trying to quash their rivals, making some very competitive moves in order to secure subscribers. However, Canada and Mexico were special cases where you'd get full-speed LTE data on most plans.

One of the things that helped T-Mobile to grow so fast was the reintroduction of unlimited data plans.

The reason for this downgrade in data availability, according to Engadget, is that T-Mobile needs to pay heavy roaming costs in these countries. T-Mobile has now stepped in and is limiting the amount of roaming data available to people in those countries starting on November 12. However, the company says the data cap has now been imposed in an effort to "prevent usage beyond the intent of the product". Once that threshold is reached, the carrier may prioritize (throttle) data speeds during periods of congestion. Is 5 GB more than enough anyway?
