North Korea's top diplomat says Donald Trump lit fuse of war

North Korea's top diplomat says Donald Trump lit fuse of war

The drill, which involves aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan, is scheduled to begin Monday in waters east and west of South Korea.

The nuclear-powered submarine MI arrived at the South Korean port of Busan on Friday. US and South Korean warplanes will also join the exercise, which takes place amid heightened tensions over North Korea's advancing nuclear missile programme.

Kim Jong Un recently visited the Red Flag Mangyongdae Revolutionary School, an elite school in Pyongyang, the second civilian-related visit the North Korean leader has made in a week.

In this undated footage, people celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the founding of North Korea's Workers' Party in Pyongyang, North Korea.

The latest warnings from Pyongyang follow weeks of rising tensions, which promise to escalate further when the United States and South Korea joint naval exercises begin Monday.

"The [Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the official name for North Korea] almost achieved the final point on the way to our ultimate goal, to achieving a real balance of force with the United States".

Kim Jong Un has said he would watch the Americans before deciding when to launch an "enveloping fire" around Guam.

During his remarks at the United Nations last month, Trump threatened to "totally destroy" North Korea and adopted a demeaning nickname for the North Korean leader - referring to him as "Rocket Man" and subsequently "Little Rocket Man".

On North Korea, Kelly said Americans "should be concerned about a state that has developed a pretty good ICBM capability and is developing a pretty good nuclear re-entry vehicle".

"We can't let this to go on". He said there was already "great concern" about Americans living in Guam.

Trump told reporters at the White House: "If it's going to be something other than negotiation, believe me we are ready more so than we have ever been". "Let's hope that diplomacy works", the chief of staff said.

On Wednesday, Trump also characterized a diplomatic deal with North Korea brokered under former President Bill Clinton as a failure.

The previous test compelled Washington to accelerate its global campaign to exert sanctions and pressure on North Korea.

Hyon Song-wol became a substitute member of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party, the political engine of the North Korean regime, reports the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
