Girl child rescued from Bengaluru building collapse, government says will adopt her

Girl child rescued from Bengaluru building collapse, government says will adopt her

At least six people have been killed in the Indian city of Bangaluru, while several others may be trapped as a result of a collapse of a residential building, local media reported Monday.

"Government has made a decision to adopt the girl and will take care of all her expenses", State Development Minister KJ George said.

"Six people are dead, out of which five were residents of the building and one was a neighbour", said state Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy while visiting the site.

"Cylinders on both ground and first floor had no gas in them". They died on the spot while two children sustained injuries.

The toll in a three-storey building collapse has gone up to seven, according to the latest update by the news agency ANI.

The Fire Department was alerted around 6.45am when a 50-year-old woman was leaving for work and she heard an explosion. The incident took place in Circle Gundappa Layout in Ejipura, early morning on Monday and four bodies were taken out from the debris.

The deceased have been identified as Kalavati (69), Ravi Chandra (48), Hari Prasad (19), Pavan Kalyan (18), Ashwini, and Saravana.

Three fire-fighters clearing debris were injured when a wall fell on them. Bengaluru Mayor R Sampath Raj, however, said four families were residing in the building.

At least 40 fire-fighters and NDRF personnel are still carrying out the rescue operation.

The family members of the deceased said that there were cracks in the building and the owner Gunesh did not bother to fix it when they repeatedly complained about it.
