Major advances for the screening of breast cancer

Major advances for the screening of breast cancer

The American Cancer Society estimated nearly 500 men will die from breast cancer in 2017. It should also help to identify more effectively the women with a high risk of suffering from such a cancer, but also to reduce the screening to be unnecessary and over-diagnosis. My passion for fund raising for the Breast Care Unit increases as I hear of more and more women who, like me, have benefitted from the care and support they received from the fantastic team at The Breast Care Unit whilst going through their breast cancer journey. ". I'm prayerful and hopeful for a day we can find a cure for this particular cancer".

Your weight, activity level, alcohol consumption and breast density may determine your risk of breast cancer. The researchers found that non-cancerous breast tissue had more of a certain type of bacteria, and the cancerous tissue had other types that were elevated.

Herrin says most men don't think they will get breast cancer.

Researchers hope to develop a blood test to identify genes linked to breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society Cancer Facts & Figures 2017, an estimated 252,710 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 40,610 will die from the disease this year.

USA co-author Professor Peter Kraft, from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, said the findings revealed a wealth of new information about the genetic mechanisms underlying the disease.

About one in eight women in countries such as the U.S. are expected to develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime.

However, not all cancer cells carry this receptor - these are known as oestrogen-receptor negative.

"Some of the variations are protective, others increase the risk".

As healthcare providers, one of our responsibilities is counselling regarding lifestyle modification and adopting a healthy lifestyle and spreading awareness, both among the general population and breast cancer survivors.

Professor John Bridgewater, an oncologist at University College London Hospital, who was not involved in the study, said: 'Many patients will often go on special diets, rather than having conventional treatment. Another prospective study has shown the greatest reduction in breast cancer risk for women who reported walking/hiking for 10 hours per week.

Baroness Delyth Morgan, chief executive of the charity Breast Cancer Now, said: 'This is another exciting step forward in our understanding of the genetic causes of breast cancer.

As for Stacy, she left her appointment with good news.

A further seven genes were identified specifically in association with breast cancers that lacked oestrogen receptors, which don't tend to respond to hormone based therapies.
