Gaming firm Razer unveils powerful smartphone loaded with premium features

Gaming firm Razer unveils powerful smartphone loaded with premium features

The new Razer Phone was launched yesterday (1 November) in London, and its focus on gaming means it has quite a notable list of specs.

The Razer Phone will start shipping on the 17th November, pre-orders start on 3rd November. The Razer phone features Qualcomm's flagship chipset for the year - the Snapdragon 835 coupled with an enormous 8GB of RAM.

As for its software, the Razor Phone runs a near stock version of Android Nougat, which is further upgradeable to Android Oreo.

"Arena of Valor brings gamers a fast-paced, competitive experience, and the Razer phone was built to handle the visuals, sound and quick-reflex mechanics of the game".

In terms of design, the smartphone bears some resemblance to the company's laptop lineup, bearing a matte finished all metal body with the Razer logo at the back. The battery offers 4000 mAh. This means the device should easily handle hard tasks such as playing graphics-intensive video games and editing photos on the go.

It's still early for a full review, but on first impressions, the Razer Phone is a surprisingly good effort at the firm's first crack at a smartphone - but only because it sticks to tried-and-tested formula.

I do enjoy the Razer Phone's massive dual front-facing stereo speakers, even though they add slightly thicker bezels to to the phone's top and bottom.

According to Razer, its phone's display delivers the fastest refresh rates and smoothest graphics among today's smartphones.

As for the audio part, well Razer is following trends right now and have ditched the 3.5mm audio jack in favour of a THX-certified USB-C audio adapter. Two 12-megapixel cameras are fitted to the rear of the phone in an increasingly common dual-lens setup. Dubbed simply the Razer Phone, there was a lot of talk about its "groundbreaking audiovisual technologies and processing muscle" that would enable mobile gamers to "Watch, Listen, Play" like never before. The Razer Phone has a 5.72-inch Quad-HD Sharp IGZO LCD, claimed to be "the world's first 120Hz UltraMotion display".

But depending on how you hold phone your thumbs are still likely to cover those lovely speakers.

The Razer Phone has electronic image stabilization, which might be helpful while creating first-person gaming videos. There's no release date for Australia or New Zealand yet, but as soon as we get word on its availability we'll let you know.

If you are a passionate gamer who has already tested Razer's gaming devices, then you should definitely consider purchasing the new Razer Phone.
