IPhone, iPad, Mac sales back on the rise

IPhone, iPad, Mac sales back on the rise

Apple said it sold 46.7 million iPhones in the fourth quarter ended September 30, above analysts' estimates of 46.4 million, according to financial data and analytics firm FactSet.

Often reliable KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a memo to investors that it is highly unlikely that Apple will integrate a 7P (seven-lens plastic array) or 2G3P (two glass, three plastic) design in the iPhone X successor's camera.

The new phone, which goes on sale around the world on Friday, drew a line of about 350 people outside Apple's store in Sydney, Australia shortly after the company released its results.

Some Chinese re-sellers, however, said they already cancelled pre-orders for the iPhone X, concerned there wouldn't be enough of a supply bottleneck to allow them to charge a steep premium - despite some worries about long waits.

The world's biggest company on Thursday reported net income for its latest quarter of $10.7 billion and earnings per share of $2.07.

Behman said he camped outside the store for a week and said he plans to sell the phones on for around A$3,000 each. This is mostly due to the upcoming sales of the iPhone X, HomePod, and others.

Nonetheless, the just-ended quarter largely became an afterthought once Apple made a decision to release the iPhone X six weeks after the iPhone 8. All told, Apple earned $10.7 billion on revenue of $52.6 billion, compared with a $9 billion profit on revenue of $46.9 billion a year earlier.

Making the iPhone X is proving to be a challenge because it boasts a color-popping OLED screen, which isn't as readily available as standard LCD displays in other iPhone models.

Even supply chain solution provider Redington India and HCL Infosystems that sell newly-launched iPhones on their partner stores were yet to send any information on iPhone X. Nonetheless, the iPad still contributed $4.8 billion to Apple's revenues.

Ahead of the November 3 release of the redesigned glass and stainless steel device, some analysts have questioned its price tag: At $999 for the base model, it is the most expensive iPhone to date.

Cook and company say they expect between $84 billion and $87 billion in revenue next quarter. Most analysts are predicting Apple won't be able to catch up with demand until early next year.

Analysts had expected total revenue of $50.7bn, according to Thomson Reuters. That would be slightly better than the same time past year. The company sold 74.8 million iPhones in the year ago holiday quarter.
