WhatsApp hit by temporary global outage

WhatsApp hit by temporary global outage

Users in Malaysia and Singapore also complained of WhatsApp being down in those countries.

Frantically seeking the reason, thousands of WhatsApp addicts took to Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms. According to various reports, users in Europe, Singapore, the U.S., the UK, India and other Asian countries are facing this problem. While no online service is immune to the occasional hiccup, this outage was notable for its global scale which impacted WhatsApp's sizable user base.

The outage began at 7.10am GMT, and it prevented millions of people across the world from using the app.

Facebook was not immediately available for comment when contacted by CNBC.

It's weird, even I can't use WhatsApp right now.

Popular messaging app WhatsApp messenger is down which has forced its billions of users to switch from other forms of communication. Earlier in May, WhatsApp faced a similar problem but unlike today the outage went for few hours (much longer than today).

Users on social media are reporting that they are unable to receive or send messages. "This issue has been fixed and we apologise for the inconvenience". WhatsApp rarely suffer from problems that are worldwide.

The Facebook-owned app was restored by 11:15 and had been down since just after 10:00 on Friday morning.
