IPhone X Is the 'Most Breakable Ever' According to Test

IPhone X Is the 'Most Breakable Ever' According to Test

It may cost a fortune, but there's no denying that the iPhone X is jaw-droppingly pretty.

The iPhone X has a giant screen, Face ID and no home button.

Apple has published a new support document for the iPhone X that explains some of the benefits and risks associated with its new Super Retina display.

Apple touts that the iPhone X has "the most durable glass ever in a smartphone", but glass is glass after all and it's bound to break, shatter, or crack at some point. SquareTrade has been putting the latest phones through their paces over the past couple years.

Face Down Drop Test: On its first drop, SquareTrade saw the iPhone X shatter, its screen become unresponsive and its widely touted facial recognition feature fail completely.

The side drop was considered the most damaging internally, while the exterior of the phone remained mostly intact. He also burnt the phone with a cigarette lighter and attempted to bend it, but concluded that the iPhone X is indeed a solidly-build handset that's hard to damage without deliberately trying to do so. For the water dunk test, in which the phone was placed somewhat deep under water for 30 minutes, the phone was somewhat unaffected aside from a little audio muffling. Based on its tests, DisplayMate declares the iPhone X the "Best Performing Smartphone Display", earning its highest ever A+ grade.

Another drop (of a fresh, undamaged iPhone X) cracked the front and back, but also damaged Face ID and stopped the new home screen gestures from working, making it impossible to leave the app now open.

And here's the quoted test results that SquareTrade sent.

Tumble Test:Sixty seconds in the Tumble Bot was no friend to the iPhone X either. "With the iPhone X, that is no longer the case", according to the New York Times. All of which may be why Apple is charging a whopping $279 for front screen replacement and $549 for other repairs.

In its own drop test, CNET tossed it 3 feet to the sidewalk, and iPhone X came away with a small crack and a seperate fracture on the back of the device.
