Koenigsegg shuts down Nevada highway, tops out at 447 km/h

A Swedish supercar has broken Bugatti's record to become the fastest ever production vehicle.

Just one month after shattering the Chiron's 0-400-0kmh record by 5 seconds, Koenigsegg have set the new world record for the fastest production auto, clocking a 277.9mph two-way average top speed in the Agera RS.

Bugatti is expected to attempt an official top speed record with its Chiron in the near future, using a new tyre design from Michelin. An 11-mile straight section of the highway was closed for the drives, which beat rival car-maker Bugatti's previous record of 268 miles per hour.

The owner of the Agera had used his connection in the film industry to convince Nevada authorities to shut down an 11-mile stretch of Highway 106, which runs between Las Vegas and the town of Pahrump, Top Gear reports.

The Swedish automobile manufacturer's efforts were not in vain though, as the Koenigsegg Agera RS successfully broke the record that was previously held by Bugatti. This may make the Agera RS the world's fastest street legal production vehicle.

At the beginning of October, the Agera RS also broke the time record for the 0-400-0, during which the vehicle must accelerate from 0 to 400 km/h and then decelerate back to a stop. Part of that speed verification is in video form below.

But that's not the only record the Agera RS has broken.

You can watch the Agera's record-breaking run recorded via VBOX data-logging above.

The limited-edition Agera RS is powered by a 5-litre V8 producing 1,160bhp and 738lb ft of torque, allowing it to make the sprint from 0-62mph in less than three seconds.
