Facebook wants nude photos from Australian users

Facebook's new tools to tackle revenge porn come after many scandals where people have had their naked photos uploaded by someone who did not have their permission.

This allows for the image to be blocked from further distribution on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger as a pre-emptive strike against revenge porn, which has become a common method of abuse and exploitation online in recent years.

You might have heard the rumors that Facebook wants to see you naked.

The company is partnering with a small Australian Government agency for a pilot project created to prevent sexual or intimate images being shared without the subject's consent.

The scheme is aimed at people who are anxious partners or ex-partners may share the images without their consent - and is being trialled in Australia, the US, Canada and the UK.

"As part of our continued efforts to better detect and remove content that violates our community standards, we're using image matching technology to prevent non-consensual intimate images from being shared on Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Groups and Messenger".

Once Facebook is notified, they use image-matching technology to access and tag the image to prevent anyone from sharing it on their platforms.

It's definitely worth thinking about how to hack proof your life but the good news is that Facebook are finally climbing onboard, too.

The program in Australia is in conjunction with the government's e-Safety Commission, an office dedicated to promoting digital safety, especially for children. While Facebook originally announced these plans in April, the pilot program is now underway. Adults who have shared nude or sexually explicit photos with someone online, and who are anxious about unauthorised distribution, can report images to the Australian government's eSafety Commission.

The pilot program is also available in the US, the United Kingdom and Canada, according to CNBC.
