Packers cut TE Martellus Bennett with failure to disclose physical condition designation

Packers cut TE Martellus Bennett with failure to disclose physical condition designation

In a surprising, seemingly out-of-nowhere move Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers released tight end Martellus Bennett, claiming he failed to disclose a medical condition. "To everyone that has poured themselves and time into my life and career".

"I know he was in here yesterday, there's a number of opinions that he's working through, he met with our medical staff yesterday, so they're still going through the process, but he will be out against Chicago". Then, one week ago, Bennett mysteriously missed practice with a shoulder injury.

Coincidence or not, that loss to the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium - Bennett, ironically, was Rodgers' intended receiver on the fateful play and dropped the pass - was the last game Bennett would play for the Packers.

Bennett's agent, Kennard McGuire, declined comment.

The Packers will look to veterans Lance Kendricks and Richard Rodgers to serve as the top tight ends in their offense moving forward. If they do, Bennett would have to return $4.2 million.

Last month, Bennett, 30, wrote an Instagram story explaining he was leaning toward retiring after this season. Not only did he have two years remaining on his deal after this year, he was due a $2 million roster bonus if he was still with the team on the third day of the 2018 league year.

"Once I feel like my preparation goes down, I feel like that's when I will walk away". He recorded 208 receptions and 14 touchdowns over 43 contests. His 33.3 yards per game is the lowest total of his career since 2011 when he found himself behind Jason Witten on the tight end depth chart with the Dallas Cowboys.
