Hazleton Area Students Honor Veterans With a Breakfast

At Westside High School, dozens were honored with applause Thursday morning as generations of veterans filed into the high school gym.

Several communities are honoring our veterans in some special ways. The assembly ended with the Armed Forces Medley, sung by the school chorus, and a brief introduction by each veteran before being served lunch. For every haircut purchased at one of their almost 900 salons, including Hair Cuttery, 24 E. Green St., C, one free-haircut certificate will be donated to a veteran locally.

"That's why we do that during the school day". Speaker is County Board Chair Mike Marron.

Volunteers will collect the flags at Mount Pisgah Cemetery at 4 p.m., followed by the annual reception at the American Legion Hall at 5.

The color guards and drum lines from the two marching bands will perform in the parade, which starts at 1 p.m. and moves down Second Street in Gillette. Keynote speaker is veteran Alfred Coon.

Trout Primary School: Veterans Day program will be at 9 a.m. Friday.

Veterans and current servicemen and women will be honored on stage at Adams Elementary School's annual salute to patriots at 9 a.m. Program emcee will be retired Cleburne High School Principal and Korean Conflict veteran E.J. Barnes. It's at 7:30 Christ Chapel on the campus of Northwestern College in Orange City. This will be a patriotic show and all the veterans will be honored. Tickets are $10 at the door.

"Here at Shelledy, our students are privileged to know what a veteran is".

The Pennsylvania Military Museum will be open on Veterans Day with free admission for military veterans and their immediate family members.

Southridge Elementary, 8:45 a.m. Come share a memory or story with fellow veterans.

A Veterans Day ceremony will be held Friday, Nov. 10 by Farmersville ISD. The featured speech will be by Army Major Gen. Donald Lynn.

That evening the Honor Guard will present colors at the Powell County Chamber banquet and awards in the Broken Arrow Steakhouse.
