Morocco, Tunisia qualify for Russian Federation 2018 World Cup

Morocco, Tunisia qualify for Russian Federation 2018 World Cup

Morocco and Tunisia have joined Nigeria, Egypt, and Senegal as the African teams who will be playing in the World Cup this summer.

A mouth-watering clash lay in store in Abidjan, where Côte d'Ivoire hosted Morocco, with the victor booking a ticket to Russian Federation 2018.

Tunisia finished a point clear of DR Congo, who were seeking a first trip to the finals since 1974 when they played as Zaire, to achieve their own fifth World Cup qualification.

Tunisia and Morocco have completed the roster of teams that would represent Africa at the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup.

Morocco and Tunisia qualified for the World Cup on Saturday, taking Africa's last two places.

It is the fifth time that the Moroccan national football team gets qualified for the worldwide FIFA competition. In case of qualifying to the World Cup in Russian Federation, each player will receive $ 100,000. Before today's matches, Morocco had 9 points while the Ivorians had 8 points; meaning the victor of the match would qualify.

Morocco travelled to Abidjan leading Ivory Coast by a point in Group C and needing only a draw in the last matchday.

Nabil Dirar gave the visitors the lead 25 minutes in, cutting in from the right and seeing his left-footed cross go all the way in, raising serious questions over goalkeeper Sylvain Gbohouo.

Tunisia survived some nervous moments in Rades as Libya finished strongly.

Starting the final game three points behind Tunisia, Congo beat Guinea 3-1 in a whirlwind finish, when Congo scored twice in injury time.

Serge Aurier had the best chance to score for Ivory Coast in the second half, but he skied his shot over the bar, and Morocco maintained their record of not conceding a single goal in the six games in CAF qualifying Group C.
