Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte threatens to slap United Nations critic of drugs war

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte threatens to slap United Nations critic of drugs war

"How much more now that I am President?" he concluded, to laughter from the audience. "When have you seen drug suspects surrender by their thousands?"

"So the 23,000 that I ordered was (sic) scrapped and your timely assistance to my country helped us replenish the old arms and the spent bores that were fired repeatedly and we have a new stock". "Many countries have the problem [with drugs], we have a problem, but what a great job you are doing and I just wanted to call and tell you that", Trump said in the transcript. "I will slap her in front of you. Why?"

"President Putin, sir, I'm very happy to see you again".

"I want to pass on words of thanks from the Philippine people for the timely aid that Russian Federation provided by giving us trucks and weapons", he said as the two met on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Danang, Vietnam. Tragically, the figure does not include another 2,290 civilians whose murders were linked to drug-related crimes and thousands of others whose deaths remain a mystery.

The controversial leader has waged a war on drugs in the Philippine since he took office in June 2016.

This comes after Hultgren and McGovern, co-chairs of Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, urged US President Donald Trump to express America's "profound concern" on the alleged extrajudicial killings linked to Duterte's campaign against narcotics.

Duterte reportedly looked serious when he was telling the story and advised to forget about human rights.

Duterte's claim was made during remarks to Filipinos living in Vietnam on Thursday. "Lay off. That is not your business".

Well, given Trump's apparent fondness for world dictators, it doesn't seem Trump will likely be bothered by not getting to discuss the topic with Duterte - after all, the USA commander-in-chief has praised Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi, who is accused of sanctioning the killings of some 800 protesters in a single day, for doing "a fantastic job in a very hard situation".

But Aguirre and officials of the Bureau of Immigration under his office admitted they have yet to receive an order from Duterte banning the entry of the two United States lawmakers into the country. [He] reprimanded me. Why do you reprimand me?

Senior White House officials have said Mr Trump will reassure Asean that the U.S. has not forgotten South-east Asia, even as he pursues an "America First" policy that has allowed China to broaden its influence in the region. "I will tell them, you are too presumptuous".
