George Takei denies 1981 sexual assault claim

George Takei denies 1981 sexual assault claim

In an article published by The Hollywood Reporter on November 10, 2017, former model Scott R. Brunton claims that he was groped by Takei in 1981 when he was 23.

"Right now it is a he said/he said situation, over alleged events almost 40 years ago".

On Friday, Scott R Brunton told the Hollywood Reporter that in 1981, when he was 23, he was invited into Takei's condo in Los Angeles.

The accusations come hot on the heels of claims by a former male model that Star Trek veteran George Takei, who played Sulu in the iconic show and subsequent movies, pulled down his trousers and groped him in 1981. "I am sure he'll disown all this, I don't know, maybe not". In addition to his stature as one of the seven prominent cast members on the original Star Trek TV series from the late 1960s (and subsequent movies featuring the cast in later years), Takei in recent years has used his voice in Hollywood to address social issues, including gay rights activism, after he revealed his sexuality in 2005. Brunton claimed the two struck up a friendship soon after and later spent an evening together at dinner and a show after Brunton broke up with his boyfriend.

In a Facebook post, Takei said that the events which Brunton describes "simply did not occur, and I do not know why he has claimed them now".

After regaining consciousness, Brunton alleges he awakened to find Takei assaulting him.

Dreyfuss agent Barry McPherson on Saturday denied the actor ever exposed himself to Teich - but he also acknowledged to Vulture other encounters Dreyfuss now realises were inappropriate. After actor Anthony Rapp accused Kevin Spacey of assault - prompting Spacey to come out as gay - Takei told the Hollywood Reporter that "men who improperly harass or assault do not do so because they are gay or straight - that is a deflection. They do so because they have the power, and they chose to abuse it".

Most such revelations have followed the news last month that the Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein serially harassed and coerced women into sexual contact for years, and hired teams of professionals to silence or denigrate victims.

George Takei denied he groped a male model in 1981. After starting to feel dizzy, Brunton laid down on a beanbag chair and passed out. He said he "pushed him off" and left Takei's house, claiming also to have met Takei for coffee years later, but not discussing the incident with Takei.

Takei took to Twitter on November 11, 2017, to deny the allegations saying he was "shocked and bewildered" at the claims.

To confirm Brunton's account, THR spoke with four of his "longtime friends", who all said he had confided in them about it years ago.

Takei called the accusations a "he said/he said situation" and added that the "very idea that someone would accuse me of this is quite personally painful".
