Grace Ends S'Africa Wait At $7.5m Nedbank Golf Challenge

Grace Ends S'Africa Wait At $7.5m Nedbank Golf Challenge

He made five birdies in another steady round of golf which has left him in pole position to win "Africa's Major" on Sunday.

"It's exciting now as I'm in a good position and tomorrow will be a new challenge, so looking forward to it".

He became the first South African since 2007, when Trevor Immelman won here, to bag "Africa's Major".

Jamieson admitted his initial feeling was disappointment but is confident this performance can help him in his bid to add to a victory in the 2013 Nelson Mandela Championship in Durban.

It's an approach that also suits Grace.

With three birdies on his front nine, and a further three on his back nine, and not a single shot dropped, this was a master class in consistency.

Champion Branden Grace is sprayed with champagne by Louis Oosthuizen and Darren Fichardt on the 18th green.

The 33-year-old Scot got up and down from through the back of the green at the last to secure second place on his own, earning a career-best pay-day of around £630,000 in the process. "Majority were good putts; the one on 16 was special".

"I said to (caddie) Zack Rashego at the start of the round, I felt if I was able to go bogey-free, I'd be in with a chance".

"The good thing was I was hitting it closer than they were (Jamieson and Dubuisson)".

And Grace would love nothing more.

China's Li Haotong, who hit a second-round 77, came from nowhere to take fourth place, one shot ahead of German Martin Kaymer, after he fired an impressive round-of-the-day 64. It was a grind again, but I've given myself a chance and a lot can still happen.

"This is definitely one of my biggest wins and knowing I needed my best to get it done and then doing it was good", he said.

"This is one of those events you grow up watching as a South African, and this is probably the event as a South African you want to win", he said.

The news was extra special for the strong South African after the news he received earlier in the tournament.

He shot a final-round 68, which included five birdies and a bogey to be at five-under overall and a tied-sixth finish.

Scott Jamieson was out in 36, with two birdies, and but he had a nasty double bogey on the par four 8.
