White House Advisers Create Some Distance From Roy Moore

White House Advisers Create Some Distance From Roy Moore

Republican Roy Moore trails his Democratic opponent for the first time in polling for the Alabama Senate race, days after accusations surfaced that he had sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl nearly four decades ago.

The White House says Trump believes Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore "will do the right thing and step aside" if sexual misconduct allegations against him are true. To that, Moore responds with, "Alright, if everyone thinks I did it, I'll marry her!" "Don't think of it as ending your campaign, think of it as going to conversion therapy to turn yourself into someone who's no longer a candidate", he said.

Toomey didn't rule out the possibility that Senate Republicans might work to unseat Moore if he wins the special election against Democrat Doug Jones on December 12.

Last night's episode of Saturday Night Live tackled the week's endless stream of sexual assault allegations, shooting barbs at the likes of Roy Moore, Louis C.K.

Moore, an outspoken Christian conservative, has attacked the Washington Post report as "completely false and misleading".

'In the next few days there will be revelations about the motivation and the content of this article, ' Moore said during a Birmingham campaign rally on Saturday.

Moore is backed by Steve Bannon, Trump's former White House chief strategist whose expressed goal is to blow up the GOP establishment.

The story has stirred concern among anxious GOP officials in Washington in a key race to fill the Senate seat once held by Jeff Sessions, now the US attorney general. The step comes as Senate Republicans, led by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, have called on Moore to step aside in the Alabama Senate race if the allegations are true.

Many Republican lawmakers had already distanced themselves from Moore, who was twice removed as chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court for defying federal court rulings.
