Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is GM's most powerful auto ever

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is GM's most powerful auto ever

What's more, you don't need to know how to use a clutch pedal to drive the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The blower used in this engine is 52% larger than the one in the LT4 of the Corvette Z06; also included is a dual-injection system (direct and port injection).

On the torque side, there's 715 lb-ft, or 969 Nm.

Chevy will offer the ZR1 with a seven-speed manual transmission, and for the first-time-ever, an eight-speed paddle shift automatic transmission. It's said to be a real road course performer, and its top speed of 210 miles per hour blows away anything out of the domestic stable save for the Ford GT, rated at 216 miles per hour. Because of the American supercar's ability to hit such an insane speed, Chevrolet engineers have created two new aero packages to help with downforce. Even if you don't want the max downforce of the "High Wing", the base set up still provides a enough tweaks to generate up to 70 percent more downforce than the Z06.

Chevrolet has presented a new track-focused version of its Corvette - and the supercar is the company's most powerful production model yet. Meanwhile, the High Wing comes with summer-only Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and a different front splitter, to go with its 950 pounds of downforce at top speed. The Z06 can bust through the 0-60-mph barrier in under three seconds, so expect the ZR1 to chop several tenths off that time.

The new design package complements the Corvette ZR1's tradition of offering maximum performance with refinement and design distinction.

The pack leader is finally here, launched in Sebring Orange to make sure you notice all the significant upgrades that no doubt make it the fastest street auto GM has ever made. Few were assembled through 1972, because in order to get the ZR1 goody bag, Corvette buyers needed to pass on creature comforts.

The ZR1 has also undergone a thorough redesign, with designers opening up the front fascia to allow for improved cooling, while the massive power bulge bonnet is required to fit the larger supercharger sitting atop the engine.

Tech wise, the ZR1 doesn't initially look to be as well-equipped as some European cars, but it appears to have a standard touchscreen infotainment system, likely GM's MyLink system which offers features such as data connections and iOS And Android phone integration. The brakes are equally serious carbon ceramic units with six-piston calipers at the front. Pricing has not been announced.

The 2019 Corvette ZR1 is nothing short of an aerodynamic masterpiece.

Inside, the ZR1 also adds some more elegant touches to the familiar C7 cabin, including carbon fiber trim and either competition sports seats or Napa leather heated and cooled seats.
