The Samsung A series welcomes a new member - Samsung Galaxy A5

Samsung's sure to make a big splash with the Galaxy S9 early next year, but it also has a new mid-ranger on the way, in the form of the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2018). The smartphone has now been spotted on FCC, hinting at the imminent launch. The display on the handset will have an 18:5:9 aspect ratio, the exact size and resolution is not known as yet.

The info comes via Roland Quandt on Twitter, pointing to the not-that-unusual avenue of a Samsung support page on the firm's official website in South Korea. This included a hint that the screen could be near edge-to-edge similar to the iPhone X. Apart from the display being like the Galaxy S8-like, FCC also reveals the details of the hardware as well as the software. Recently, Samsung showcased a total of 36 devices at the CES 2018 Innovation Awards, one of which was the Exynos 9 series 9810 chipset - a new processor that might be powering its upcoming flagship smartphone, likely to be called as the "Galaxy S9".

The same report indicates that pilot production for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus kicked off in October.

Samsung's A series usually debuts around the turn of the year, and 2018's editions are not going to be any exception. The leaked renders revealed that both the smartphones will come loaded with Infinity displays and dual front-facing cameras.

Just like the rest of the Galaxy S devices before, the Galaxy S9 is expected to come with either Exynos or Snapdragon SoC, depending on where market you're located. Looking at these pictures, the flagship is expected to get a dual-camera in a vertical position, which offers tremendous benefits.

The phones will run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and they might also boast IP68 certification, making them water and dust resistant.
