Hitman TV series planned for Hulu by John Wick creator

Hitman TV series planned for Hulu by John Wick creator

The pilot episode will be penned by Derek Kolstad, the creator and writer of the much-loved and violent John Wick film series.

Kolstad, who wrote the first two critically-acclaimed John Wick films and the upcoming third installment, will serve as an executive producer on the new Hitman series. No sooner is the GOTY Edition of the latest Hitman adventure out of the door that it transpires a new Hitman TV series is in development for streaming service Hulu. The plan is for the show to stick closely to the video game material and become a flagship series for Hulu. The games centre around Agent 47, a meticulous and lethal assassin with a mysterious backstory.

This won't be the first time that Hitman's been taken out of the gaming environment for a turn in front of the camera.

The Hitman franchise has previously been on the big screen twice.

Hopefully the new show will be better than the two previous films. 2007's Hitman, starring a weirdly cast Timothy Olyphant, was goofy fun but not particularly in keeping with what the series excelled at. In 2015, the series returned under director Aleksander Bach with Homeland's Rupert Friend taking the Agent 47 role. Also helming the project will be Fox 21's Bert Salke, Jane Francis, Gloria Fan and Kira Innes, as well as Hulu's Jordan Helman. The 2016 Hitman game, however, featured an episodic release format that had Agent 47 traveling around the globe and slowly uncovering a mystery.
