J&K: Army Jawan Martyred, Terrorist Killed in Ongoing Kulgam Encounter

J&K: Army Jawan Martyred, Terrorist Killed in Ongoing Kulgam Encounter

Two militants and an army man were killed in an encounter between militants and security forces in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Tuesday.

As the security forces started the operation, they encountered counter-attack from the militants.

A police official said Bhat was from the volatile Palhalan area.

In north Kashmir, a procession was taken out during the last rites for Ashiq Ahmed Bhat, a Hizbul Mujahideen militant killed along with his associate Toib Majid of Brat Kalan Sopore in Zachildara area of Handwara town on Monday night.

A militant was also killed in the operation, the sources said.

The slain militant, he said, was a B. Tech pass-out and was associated with Hizb.

The injured soldier and policeman were shifted to a hospital. "It was a search operation during which a hideout was busted", he told CNS.

In Laan Tral of Pulwama, the gun battle broke out after security forces reached the area following a tip-off about militants hiding in the village.

However, trains continued to chug from Budgam-Srinagar to Anantnag and Qazigund to Banihal, a senior railway official said.

Mobile internet services of all cellular companies, including BSNL, were suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of rumours in south Kashmir, where two encounters are going on between militants and security forces since early Tuesday morning. The operation has not been called off yet, Pani said.
