Northern Michigan Businesses Look Forward to Small Business Saturday

Northern Michigan Businesses Look Forward to Small Business Saturday

Those small businesses and others, like Lot 2029, all look forward to Small Business Saturday.

Makenzie Danley stopped by Ida Red on Peoria in Brookside.

Hutchison said she makes gift baskets for people and care packages for military personnel and college students, and made a decision to open a store in Titusville. There's a lot of odd little things that you find here that you can't find anywhere else. The shop was stocked to the ceiling with ornaments, greeting cards, candles and potential holiday gifts.

"We have shoes at 30 dollars, other stuff at 25 percent off and everything in the store is pretty much on sale", Hudson says. "We see our sales go way up". She says that Small Business Saturday helps her business thrive.

"Just trying to get people aware of the day, what it means, and to just come out and give our community that extra support today", Jennifer Andreas with the Cedarburg Chamber of Commerce said. "You might not know that someone makes wreaths out of their house. It really contributes to the community".

Lily Berg has owned Little Switzerland Dolls for 35 years and said her shop was busy Saturday with parents looking for toys and in-store gift wrapping.

"I started out on my dining room table, and so many people still remember coming to my house over on Charleston Square", Jackson said. "And we're hoping to top that this year".

"We just love that it's really prompted, like 'come in, and support us, and let small businesses continue to grow and spread throughout the country, '" said Angie White, a small business owner.

"People are out supporting the community", she said.

Gage Blain, visiting from France, said, "It helps because if everyone buys stuff that was made in other countries, the country itself can not rise economically".

The Louisville Independent Business Alliance is holding their HolLOUdays contest again this year. "And have fun. Don't take it too seriously".

Small business saturday began in 2010 as a counterpart to black friday and cyber monday.

In Clare, locally-owned businesses are luring customers in with a raffle. "As a store owner, that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and happy". Select from these options: Breaking News, Severe Weather, School Closings, Daily Headlines and Daily Forecasts.
