'Lady Bird' Sets Rotten Tomatoes Record, Sparks Oscar Best Picture Talk

Lady Bird, a much buzzed-about coming-of-age movie from Greta Gerwig, pushed the beloved animated film out of its top-reviewed spot on Rotten Tomatoes on Monday.

Now Lady Bird, which released in the U.S. on November 3 has knocked it off the top spot with 170 positive reviews compared to Toy Story 2's 163.

Gerwig has won the Rare Pearl Award at the Denver International Film Festival while Saoirse Ronan won Best Actress at the Gotham Awards. The animation movie had gained 163 reviews holding the record for the first flawless score by Rotten Tomatoes.

It shares that achievement with classics including All About Eve, Seven Samurai, Citizen Kane, and more on the review aggregator site.

As of this writing, Lady Bird is "certified fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes with a 100 percent score made up of an astonishing 170 positive reviews and not a single negative one. It's overtaken Toy Story 2, which has a full-on spread of only positive reviews, but only 163 of them (that's seven fewer, maths fans).

"This is completely incredible and so incredibly appreciated by the entire team that made Lady Bird", said Gerwig, on being informed of her film's accomplishment.

She continued, "That there has been such a warm reception is a dream come true". Whether Lady Bird makes it at the Oscars or not, the movie has already solidified itself as one of the best ones this year.

“Thank you to everyone who has seen the film and has written about it so thoughtfully.

Lady Bird is out in wide release in U.S. theaters now.

EVER SINCE THE trailer for Saoirse Ronan's new movie Lady Bird dropped in September, we have been eagerly awaiting the release of the film in Ireland.
