Microsoft and SAP announce expanded cloud partnership

Microsoft and SAP announce expanded cloud partnership

Expanding on their existing strategic partnership, Microsoft will soon be offer SAP's private managed cloud offering, SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, on the Azure cloud computing platform.

The two tech giants also announced that they will deploy each other's cloud solutions internally.

The offering will allow both companies customers to run the SAP S/4HANA suite of enterprise resource planning applications on a secure and managed cloud. Moreover, SAP is moving 12 or more "business-critical systems to Azure", including its Concur travel expense tracking software.

"Building on our longtime partnership, Microsoft and SAP are harnessing each other's products to not only power our own organisations, but to empower our enterprise customers to run their most mission-critical applications and workloads with SAP S/4HANA on Azure".

Last year, that market was said to be worth US$22.16 billion, with Amazon Web Services taking a 44 percent share, and Microsoft's Azure service holding a 7.1 percent share, the paper said, citing data from Gartner. "The world's significant businesses trust Microsoft and SAP. Together, we will help companies win the customer-driven growth revolution".

Microsoft announced in 2014 a string of SAP's core business applications would be certificated on Azure.

"Microsoft benefits because it adds more legitimacy to its cloud operations".

Microsoft and SAP plan to document these internal projects and make them available to customers who want to deploy SAP on Azure for guidance purposes. Microsoft is transforming its internal systems - which include legacy SAP finance applications, and will implement the SAP S/4HANA Finance solution running on Azure.

This new agreement covers internal software development running within the cloud, as well as the ability to reach customers that use both Microsoft and SAP software. This step is a part of their plans of producing cloud based products together for the mutual customers.

Under the partnership, SAP and Microsoft provide support for their respective products and services.

A deeper partnership with SAP could open a new path for big corporate customers to use Azure, according to industry analysts. "The Microsoft and SAP alliance provides us with the assurance we need for our innovation in the cloud". They also are working on co-marketing efforts.
