Google's Datally Can Prevent Data Wastage

Google has launched a new app to help solve one of the biggest and most irritating problems for smartphone users - running out of data.

Those who are whining about how their mobile data vanishes in a snap then you can finally stop as Google on Wednesday unveiled another app for Android users which will save your mobile data.

The app has been made available for all the devices running Android version 5.0 (Lollipop) or newer.

It has front and center controls that allow a user to see real-time app data usage, and block an app's data usage if things get out of control. In others, the apps will recommend a nearby Wi-Fi network the user can connect to in order to save mobile data.

People testing the app saved up to 30% of mobile data, depending on the way they used Datally, a presser released after the event stated.

Called Datally, (pronounced "day tally") it's a lightweight (6MB) app that helps Android users get a feel for what's chewing through your data.

Next, if you really want to conserve your data, you can turn on the data-saving function, which monitors your traffic to prevent apps from sucking up too much bandwidth in the background. It's also key in less developed nations as Google tries to expand with its "Next Billion Users" push.

Datally is a new app from Google that will track your data usage, as well as restrict apps from accessing data easily on an app by app basis. There are numerous third-party apps that let users keep an eye on their numbers, but now you won't have to look elsewhere. In some cases, that may including turning off some apps that eat up data even when not in use. This again can save you precious mobile data MBs. Whenever that app uses data, the bubble will show the current rate of data usage. It can also find nearby free Wi-Fi for you to use.

Back in June, Google quietly launched an app called "Triangle", created to conserve mobile data.

Despite its intended target audience, Datally sounds useful for anyone with throttled "unlimited" mobile data plans in the U.S. and other developed nations, as well.
