YouTube Unveils Reels, a Stories Format for its Creators

YouTube Unveils Reels, a Stories Format for its Creators

YouTube is adopting the "stories" format made popular by Instagram and Snapchat, but with its own spin.

YouTube is reportedly testing a new feature called "Reels", which will be similar to the Stories feature you now see on Snapchat and Instagram. Unlike Snapchat Stories, Reels posts don't automatically expire after 24 hours.

YouTube is also adding a Snapchat-like post format called "Reels" for quickly posting videos.

It's early days still, and the company hasn't said much about the feature, though we were able to parse some facts together in order to provide you with a more fuller picture of how Reels will work on YouTube. You can add filters, music, and text to the Reels, with creators able to also add some "YouTube-y" stickers and links to their other YouTube videos.

The Community tab on YouTube is now available for all channels with over 10,000 subscribers. The idea here is to upgrade YouTube's social capabilities to keep both creators and their users on the video platform for fear of them turning to alternative sites that continue to update their offerings. "We learned that you want the flexibility to create multiple Reels and have them not expire, so we'll give you those options", notes the blog post. According to YouTube people wants to share stuff on the YouTube without the hassle of following the traditional ways of making a YouTube video. Currently, Reels is being tested in a small group of the creators and the company hasn't revealed any date for its final roll out. Your most engaged viewers can now see Community posts in the Home feed, whether they're subscribed to your channel or not. Users will also have the opportunity to evaluate the Reels, putting them huskies or dslan. We've also optimized our notifications so that your fans are eligible to receive them, but they won't necessarily get a new notification for every new Community post.
