Arrest made after missing North Carolina girl presumed dead

Arrest made after missing North Carolina girl presumed dead

Investigators in North Carolina have made arrest in the disappearance of 3-year-old Mariah Woods and investigators believe she is dead.

Kimrey was described by authorities as the live-in boyfriend of the girl's mother, who reported Mariah missing on Monday morning after putting her to bed in their Jacksonville home the previous night. He is charged with concealing of death, obstruction, second-degree burglary, felony larceny and possession of stolen property.

Newly released warrants from the Onslow County Sheriff's Office indicate that Kimery 'allegedly knowingly concealed the unnatural death of Mariah Woods, and secretly hid the child's body'.

Kimrey lived with Mariah and her mother in Jacksonville.

The statement says investigators think the girl is dead, but didn't say how she might have been killed.

Though the girl's body has not been found, ongoing searches for her have now turned into a recovery process.

Kimrey is now being held at the Onslow County Detention Center under a $1,010,000 bond. Deputies say her body has not been found. ABC News reports that her mother reached out to the public in an emotion-filled plea Monday.

Officials said more than 700 people came Friday to join the search for the toddler.

The statement did not say if Kimrey has a lawyer.

Saturday afternoon, officials said they were still searching for Mariah Woods, but believed she was dead.

The search was organized in connection with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

"We had a total of 730 volunteers help us today", Miller said. The missing child's case has shifted to a homicide case.

'Someone just walked right up in there, grabbed the 3-year-old out of the bed and she didn't cry, she didn't scream? Meador said they also sifted through roughly 95,000 pounds of trash by hand for evidence, and some "items of interest" were sent to the Marine Corps Base at Quantico for testing. Dive teams have been searching Southwest Creek in Onslow County, Meador said, which is about 3 miles away from where the family lives.
