In more than 100 years of Oklahoma and Georgia football, with the likes of erschel Walker, Brian Bosworth, Charley Trippi, Steve Owens, Wally Butts, Bud Wilkinson, Frank Sinkwich, Billy Vessels, Billy Sims, Vince Dooley, Barry Switzer, Sam Bradford, David Pollack, Mark Richt, Bob Stoops and 10 Ugas, the Sooners and Bulldogs have met on the field a grand total of zero times.

The selection committee is also responsible for choosing the teams which play in the Cotton, Fiesta and Peach Bowls in years those bowls are not hosting the semifinal games.

The Bulldogs (12-1) routed the Auburn Tigers 28-7 in the SEC title game on Saturday night while the Oklahoma Sooners (11-1, 8-1) downed TCU 41-17 in the Big 12 title game. Georgia is scheduled to play a game there in 2025 against UCLA.

Oklahoma and Georgia are headed out west to play their College Football Playoff semifinal in the 104th Rose Bowl. The Sooners have gone from being called "pretenders" before the season to being the hottest team in college football.

0 - Number of turnovers by Oklahoma vs. TCU in the Big 12 Championship.

Georgia: The Bulldogs have made a bowl game in 21 straight seasons, but this is their biggest stage since the Sugar Bowl on January 1, 2008. After reaffirming their supremacy on both sides of the ball-all Heisman front-runner Mayfield did was go 15 of 23 through the air for 243 yards and four touchdowns-the Sooners look like a team no one wants to line up against when the bright lights come on. Most sources favored Georgia to finish the regular season 10-2 before losing in the SEC Championship Game.

Clemson beat Alabama 35-31 in the national championship game last season. Oklahoma and Georgia will meet in the Rose Bowl on the same day. Ohio State won the Big Ten while Alabama did not even win its Southeastern Conference division.

The committee selects teams based on conference championship wins, overall win-loss records, strength of schedule, head-to-head matchups and other criteria.

Georgia earned a spot with its first SEC title since 2005 under Smart, its second-year coach.

Clemson is bidding for the program's third national football championship, and the third by an ACC team in the last five seasons. The poll was released about an hour before the College Football Playoff pairings were being revealed.

This replaces the heavily criticized BCS postseason system, which ran from the 1998-2013 seasons and was often accused of unfairness relating to team selections.

The College Football Playoff trophy, presented to the championship team, is handmade, stands 26.5 inches tall and is constructed from 24-karat gold, bronze and stainless steel. "I came back to win a national title".
