Ontario police investigating after viral video of boy throwing cat

The 16-year-old, whose name police have not released, is seen lifting the cat with both hands and flinging the terrified kitten into the air.

Disturbing footage, which lasts less than 10 seconds, was reportedly filmed in Ontario, California, and was apparently posted to Snapchat.

As the cat lands on to the road, a painful scream can also be heard in the video.

Police said they are withholding the suspect's name due to his age - but neighbors say they know who he is.

Police in Ontario say the cat has a leg fracture but is expected to recover.

Meanwhile, the Fontana Police Department on Saturday (2 December) said on Twitter and that they have received complaints about the video by several people.

The kitten and its owner have been located.

They are quoted by a local NBC affiliate as saying that the video is too distressing for them to watch. The cat's owner, Perla, told NBC4: "I just want [the perpetrator] to know he hurt a victim that can't defend itself". After Charlie abused Spots, the cat was rushed to an emergency clinic, where it was determined that Spots suffered a broken leg. "The Inland Valley Humane Society is assisting with the investigating and care of the injured animal".

Online comments suggesting it happened in Ontario led police in that city to investigate, said Ontario police Sgt. Stafford Cross.

The devastated pet owner, who found the stray kitten four months ago, told NBC4 that they refused to watch the upsetting video. The investigation is active and ongoing. "He hangs around here in the alley all the time", Oscar Ramos told the CBS affiliate. They think they're cool.
