O'Reilly Accuser Sues Because Bill Keeps Talking About Her

O'Reilly Accuser Sues Because Bill Keeps Talking About Her

The exact amount she was paid is not known, but it was far less than the other settlements. The Times notes that Bernstein did not accuse O'Reilly of sexual harassment. "The case did not involve sexual harassment". Bernstein took an undisclosed payout in return and she signed a confidentiality agreement.

"In fact, Mr. O'Reilly is the liar", states the lawsuit, which was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of NY. The April 1 story recounted how the anchor and network had paid $13 million in settlements over the years to her and other women who had complained that O'Reilly had abused or sexually harassed them during their employment.

Just like other prominent and controversial people, I'm vulnerable to lawsuits from individuals who want me to pay them to avoid negative publicity.

"Plaintiff did complain in person to Fox HR, Bill Shine and other Fox executives about O'Reilly's abuse", Bernstein's attorneys say in today's filing of the now once again tarnished company and its ex-co-President.

O'Reilly's lawyers did not respond to a request for comment.

"In fact, Mr. O'Reilly is the liar", claims Bernstein's lawsuit. "Mr. O'Reilly is fully committed to supporting our efforts to improve the environment for all our employees at Fox News".

The New York Times revealed in April that Bernstein left the system in the wake of documenting a protest about him "raging into the newsroom" and shouting at her.

"O'Reilly portrayed himself as a "target" and claimed that complaints against him are extortionate", Ms. Bernstein's lawsuit said. The lawsuit claims, "This is false".

The defendants breached their agreement by making statements other than the agreed-upon statement that were false and defamatory, Bernstein alleges.

O'Reilly, who lost his job at Fox because of harassment claims, has emphatically denied wrongdoing.

Bernstein said there was no hot line in existence at the time of her employment. She is now a producer for Conan, and is being represented by Smith Mullin, the same law firm that hired by former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson in her own legal battle against the network. Bernstein alleges that Fox News, through its parent company, 21st Century Fox, falsely told The Times that it had received no complaints to an anonymous company hotline because, she contends, there wasn't a hotline while she was employed there in 2002.
