Billy Bush outrage over Trump denial of 'grab them by the pussy'

Billy Bush outrage over Trump denial of 'grab them by the pussy'

Bush joined Stephen Colbert Monday night for his first interview since his co-star on the tape, Donald J. Trump, became President of the United States. For almost 13 minutes, Bush spoke with Stephen Colbert about the entire ordeal.

"The (Access Hollywood) bus was the tip of the iceberg", Bush said.

"If you don't mind, I'm going to roll the tape", Colbert said at the beginning of their conversation. "Because I was there, and the last 14 months of my life I have been dealing with it", Bush said. "You dealt with it for 14 minutes and went on to be the president".

That was the tape that caused an uproar - but obviously did not derail - Trump's 2016 presidential campaign when the candidate was heard boasting to Bush that as a celebrity, he can "do anything" with women, including "grab them by the pussy". "Twenty women don't get together and say, 'You know what would be really fun? Let's take down a powerful guy together'". "That is your voice, I was there, you were there - that's your voice on the tape".

"Enough's enough. stop playing around with people's lives", he said, referring to Trump's latest alleged private suggestion that it was not him on the 2005 tape.

Colbert noted that the moment of reckoning began with Harvey Weinstein (whose own alleged history of sexual misconduct was made public October 5, nearly exactly a year after the Access Hollywood tape leak) and hasn't stopped.

Bush, who got fired from the Today show in the aftermath, spoke about the scandal during The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Bush told Colbert: "You've got 20 women ... who used their names".

"He was regaling the seven guys that were on the bus doing his bit". "If I had thought there was a man detailing a sexual assault strategy to me, I would have contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation and not just brought it to the attention of my producers". Bush recently wrote an op-ed in the New York Times following reports that Trump now allegedly denies that the voice on Access Hollywood tape is his, even though he previously publicly admitted that the voice on the tape was indeed his own. Bush continued, "If I had thought there was a man detailing a sexual assault strategy, I would have called the Federal Bureau of Investigation, not just reported to my executive producer, so that was it for me". He could have protected anybody and he did famously protect people from being fired from that show. I think it was very hot, emotionally in the country. "I will say, I would have liked the chance to have been able to address the audience that following Monday". He told me that he went privately to the bosses ... Night after night, you can look below the surface of his Trump ridicule and see it plainly: He just wishes he didn't have to talk about Trump anymore, ever.

When Colbert asked what Bush thought of the recent cultural shift and the notion that women need to be believed, Bush agreed, saying that "Women must be believed".

Given that opportunity by Colbert, Bush expressed concern that the necessary dialogue won't happen because "we get on to the next thing, we get on to our phones, the next outrage comes". And she said, 'No, why were you laughing at the things that he was saying on that bus, Dad?
