Trump's Lawyer Denies Reports Mueller Subpoenaed Deutsche Bank Financial Records

Trump's Lawyer Denies Reports Mueller Subpoenaed Deutsche Bank Financial Records

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has spent more than $3.2 million in the opening months of his federal criminal investigation into Russian interference in last year's USA election and whether President Donald Trump or anyone close to him colluded in it.

Kushner, who is son-in-law to Trump spoke with Mueller's team for less than 90 minutes, the report said.

Some of the attorneys working on the probe were hired from law firms, but many were already on the government payroll and were detailed from their regular Justice Department jobs.

A Justice Department report released Tuesday shows Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation spending $3.2 million between its formation in mid-May and the end September. The report said that past special counsels did not report such expenditures, and the expenses would have been incurred "irrespective of the existence" of the special counsel's office.

Donald Trump's personal banking information has formally been turned over to Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor who is investigating whether the president's campaign conspired with the Kremlin during the 2016 presidential election.

Funds were spent on personnel, travel and office space, the Justice Department said. In a recent tweet, Trump admitted that he knew then-national security adviser Michael Flynn lied to the FBI about his conversations with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak when he fired him, which means Trump knew Flynn had committed a crime when he asked then-FBI Director James Comey to lay off investigating Flynn. Mueller also disclosed that he secured a guilty plea from George Papadopoulos, who was a junior foreign-policy adviser to the Trump campaign, for lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about contacts with Russian operatives. Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his contacts with Russia's ambassador during the transition period, and, in a potentially ominous sign for the White House, agreed to cooperate with Mueller.

If Mueller's team is expanding its inquiry into the Trump family's banking and financial arrangements, that could put it onto a collision course with the president.

The German bank is one of the few major lenders that has lent large amounts to Trump in the past decade.

During his White House campaign, Trump said he would seek to improve ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which had been frequently strained during President Barack Obama's administration.
