House Shoots Down Dem Rep's Impeachment Resolution

The White House dismissed the effort, telling Politico that Green and the others who voted with him are "extremists". Green hasn't listened, though, and his aggressive support for impeachment might cause problems for Democrats in 2018. The motions must be considered by the House and so Democrats will be forced to go on record about whether to impeach the president, CNN said.

All in all, it was a politically inept decision on Green's part.

"Legitimate questions have been raised about his fitness to lead this nation".

Green's new eight-page resolution accuses the Republican president of "high misdemeanors", citing "harm to American society to the manifest injury of the people of the United States".

The House voted 364-58 to table Green's resolution, which effectively killed the measure, with 126 Democrats voting to reject the resolution as well.

"Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment".

Several Democratic lawmakers argued that it's premature to act before special counsel Robert Mueller's team completes its Russian Federation investigation. Politically, the vote puts rank-and-file Democrats in a tough position - between a desire to allow the investigations to run their course, the possible discomfort of moderate voters, and the demands of the anti-Trump left wing.

Green's impeachment articles cite incidents including Trump's defense of protesters after a rally of white supremacists at this year's riot in Charlottesville, Virginia. It is not about Republicans, it is about the fate of our Republic. The articles also mention Trump's comments regarding NFL protests during the National Anthem, and the anti-Muslim videos he retweeted on November 29.

"For too long, we have allowed our civility to prevent us from confronting the invidious incivility of President Donald J. Trump", Green wrote. It divides and damages the social fabric of our country in ways that obstruction of justice can not.

The most likely result, however, is that House Speaker Paul Ryan will bring up a vote on a "motion to table" Green's impeachment resolution Wednesday - essentially killing it.
