Mueller issues subpoena to Deutsche Bank in Russian Federation probe

Mueller issues subpoena to Deutsche Bank in Russian Federation probe

The White House has denied that President Donald Trump's financial records had been subpoenaed from Deutsche Bank by the special prosecutor examining allegations of Russian election meddling. Bloomberg reported that Mueller had issued a subpoena in November to Deutsche Bank, a German lender which Trump has often done business with throughout his career.

The special counsel's office spent $3,213,695, according to the report, and it also disclosed spending by Justice Department "components that support" the special counsel's office.

A person close to the matter said Deutsche Bank received the subpoena several weeks ago to provide information on certain money and credit transactions.

Mueller is leading an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 USA presidential election.

Mr Trump has repeatedly denied any financial connections with Russian Federation.

In a statement, the bank said it cooperates with official investigators but would not discuss individual cases. "The investigation would surely continue, though perhaps with someone who doesn't think his job includes protecting the FBI and Mr. (James) Comey from answering questions about their role in the 2016 election". "We have confirmed this with the bank and other sources".

The Trump International Hotel is shown on August 10, 2017 in Washington.

In June, Deutsche Bank already rejected demands by US House Democrats to provide details of Trump's finances, saying sharing client data would be illegal unless it received a formal request to do so.

On Friday, Mueller revealed a guilty plea by Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser, who admitted lying to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents.

Democratic senators, including Dianne Feinstein, suggested after the Flynn plea that Mueller might be building an obstruction of justice case against Trump. "Then Justice claimed that providing House investigators with classified material could hurt security or sources". In particular, Trump hailed the news that one of Mueller's aides had been removed from his job over the summer for some anti-Trump text messages.

"The White House's chief lawyer told President Donald Trump in January he believed then-national security adviser Michael Flynn had misled the Federal Bureau of Investigation and lied to Vice President Mike Pence and should be fired, a source familiar with the matter said", CNN reported.
