Amazon Prime Video comes to Apple TV at last

Amazon Prime Video comes to Apple TV at last

Amazon has released an app for its Prime Video service for Apple TV.

After years of waiting, Prime Video is available now for free.

But now Apple TV users - 3rd generation or later - will have a way to watch Amazon content.

Earlier this week, Google chose to once again yank access to YouTube from Amazon's Echo Look video-streaming devices as well as from its popular Fire TV products. The standoff led Amazon to stop selling the Apple TV on its retail site in 2015, as Recode noted.

With Amazon finally relenting on its years-long holdout, it seems the company may be finally realizing it needs support from partners like Apple if its streaming video service is going to thrive. It starts on Amazon Prime Video on Friday 8 December and will run for 13 episodes in total, with one added to the streaming platform each subsequent Friday. Currently, if you try to purchase a film or TV show through Amazon's iOS app, you're redirected to Amazon's website to complete the purchase.

Most notable, the Rocky movies are coming to Prime. "With these exciting updates, plus our growing collection of 4K HDR movies on iTunes, we continue to deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience to Apple customers", he continued.

And, after Amazon's refusal to sell a number of Google device that could rival its own - including Google's Chromecast and the Home speaker - Google has retaliated by pulling YouTube from Amazon's devices.

It's also excellent news for Apple TV 4K owners as the addition of Amazon's streaming service means the library of 4K content available to them has increased significantly.
